Diffinity is a simple merging and diff tool that automates the process of finding differences between source codes. You can then either edit or merge the source codes by making just a few mouse clicks. Editing and merging of source codes is important in any programming language used because programmers have to compile and merge different edits from time to time.
Using Diffinity
We had the option to integrate Diffinity into shell and add its shortcut to the Start menu during installation. The lightweight application required only 1.1 MB of disk space.
The main application window was divided into two parts for displaying the source codes being compared. The software had syntax highlighting feature like code editors, which was important considering the data that it handled. Another important highlighting feature was instance highlighting, whereby double-clicking a word automatically displayed all its instances.
We could browse for and add existing code via dedicated 'Open' buttons on each pane, but we also had the option of typing code directly into the application interface. We could swap the loaded files from one pane to the other.
Once we had loaded the required code files, the code comparison software automatically detected the differences between them. It then displayed the total number of differences found, and we could focus on individual differences by going to the next or previous difference using dedicated buttons or via the 'Search' menu. We could also search for desired word from the menu, which would be highlighted in the files.
In addition to making general configurations, Diffinity allowed us to configure the colors, text editor, compare function, selection highlighting and syntax colors. A button on the lower left corner of the preferences window let us reset all configurations to their default values.
Conclusion
Diffinity is a handy code comparison tool for detecting the differences between two source code files, making necessary edits and merging the files as required. The software automatically detects differences between files and lets users view the differences in thumbnail format. It includes a few tools for performing different functions, including saving and compiling the codes. The tool is especially designed for programmers.
Diffinity is a diff and merging tool with focus on accurate and easy to read source code diffs.
